SPORTS DESIGN QUILT
01 RESEARCH
THE BRIEF: To create a collection of style frames that define the look and brand of a sports team.
The Los Angeles Chargers are my favorite team in the NFL. They have a strong aesthetic surrounding electricity, storms, and energy.
The exciting challenge about designing for the Chargers comes with their stadium. SoFi Stadium, home of the Chargers and the Rams, features a 4k end to end screen. Within the screen, there are three different sections with different aspect ratios to consider.
I have broken these sections into the following categories: Full ring, Vertical Info, Main Horizontal.
02 IDEATION
The Chargers use a mix of vector and raster images, and I wanted to keep that energy. They also feature images of Los Angeles as well as storm clouds. Both are extremely important to the brand.

05 HOW?
The design quilt process calls to design every style frame at the same time. You start with color blocking and add details as you go in order to keep them cohesive.
Each style frame is a vector smart object placed into a photoshop file. This way, I could toggle back and forth between the programs to see if they all work together.
I then imported the frames into After Effects to add some raster images and effects. This also leaves open an easier opportunity for animating in the future.
The video was then all the style frames strung together to Thunderstruck by AC/DC, which I consider to be the theme song of the Chargers.
